Drafted a list of demands to Governor in order to advocate for accommodations for incarcerated people during COVID-19
Organized with #DeeperThanWater to provide healthy food for incarcerated people at the start of COVID-19.
Incarcerated people were protesting prison food at this time. The food was made by case workers and prison staff, while kitchen staff was not allowed into the prison.
May 4th: Wayland began providing food to everyone in the unit for three days, after prison guards attempted to serve food that had fallen on the ground.
May 5th-June 3rd: Wayland was put into solitary confinement, in retaliation for feeding folks inside.
June 3rd: The staff entered Wayland’s solitary cell and sprayed him with chemicals. They then forced him to move to Old Colony Correctional Center, where positive covid cases were present. (There were no covid cases at Gardner, at that time.) This was at a time where lateral moves between facilities were forbidden.
